ROUND EGMONT RACE HONORS TO CHRISTCHURCH (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. The round' ML Egmont • cycle' face of Too miles was a triumph for Christchurch riders, who filled-first'aiid second places and gained fastest time. The first three men home in order wore L. Fleming (Christchurch), 23 min., 1; F. A. Jennings (Christchurch), 22min., 2; L. Taffory (New Plymouth), 27min., 3. W. ,T. Hamberton (Christchurch), scr., who was seventh, gained fastest time, 4hrs 30 min. 13 4-ssec., one minute two seconds slower than the record for the race, hold by N. Bellringer (New Plymouth). The three first men finished practically in a bunch, with a number of others closely following. The .100 miles of bitumen road encircling the mountain was in splendid order and tho day was sunny, punctured with occasional showers. There was a strong south-west wind. . A field of 49 riders started, and ’was drawn from nearly all tile provinces. A. W. Ralston, Dunedin (lOmin) was fourth and then followed .T. G. Stack, Kaikoura (lOmin); D. Douinan, Tauffiarunui (15m.in); W. J. Lanibcrton,: Christchurch; R. Yard ley, New Plymouth (scr); C. Preen (Dunedin); and 11. G. Watson, Christchurch (scr). The New Zealand championship goes to the winner of the fastest time. Yardley gained second fastest time, and'Watson third fastest. Watson has made the fastest time on a number of occasions in the race.
