BURTON CUP FINAL GISBORNE RINK LEADING In the presence of a good gallery of spectators, the final match in the postsectional play of the Burton Cup tournament was played this afternoon on the Kahutia Club's green, the rinks being those skipped respectively by Kerr (Onehunga) and Engebretson (Gisbome). During the early stages of the match rain began to fall gently, later developing into a heavy down]K>up, but the game proceeded despite the discomfort involved for the players and tbe natural change in green conditions which, of course, affected the play of both rinks. With nine- heads played, the Grisborne. rink had a substantial lead, having scored 10 against their opponents' three. The form shown by the Gisbome rink in the- eaply heads suggested that the trophy would stay in the district, though there was always the possibility oldLthe Oneh.anga rink settling down and cajbturing the lead. Such a reversal bad occurred in more than one game played by the Onehunga men in the sectional rounds. In the semi-final this morning, Engebiotson fought Bragg to an exciting finish, coming out the winner by the barest of margins, 21—20. Engebretson secured a good early lead, scoring a three and a one, Bragg winning the third head with a single, but Englebretson followed up with two twos. Bragg, however, got ahead in the next two heads with two fours, Engebretson drawing level on- the eighth head by scoring one. The next five heads went to Bragg with thre« ouesy a two, and a three, leaving him eight in front at the 13th head. The next six heads, however, were bTngebretson's, who scored a one, four twos, and a three, leaving him four ahead at the 19th head. On the remaining two h«ad», Bragg scored a two and a one.

The teams were: J. K. Nasmith, W. A. Smith, J. W. BE. Holmes, J. A. Engebretson (s), Gisborne; C. E. Robinson, R. Jenkins, B. O. Dudfield, and A. E. Bragg (s) Kahutia. Kerr's Onehunga team is as follows: Brown, Bray, Bassett, and Kerr (s).
