WORLD’S TRADE SLUMP
FURTHER DECLINE LONDON, Nov. 15. The foreign trade turnover of 48 countries, covering seven-eighths of the total world trade, declined further in the second quarter of this year. The total was 9 per cent, less than in the first quarter and nearly 19 per cent, less than in the corresponding period of last year, records “Wirtschnft and Statistik.”
The value was £2,585,000,000, or £255,000,000 less limn in the previous quarter, imports declining by £135,000,000 and exports by £120,000,000. The United States was more affected than any other country, her exports falling by £54,430,000, and her imports by £02,500,000 as compared with the second quarter of 1929. The trade decline in European countries was general, but the falling-off of exports was heavier in England thjin in any other European country.
