THE RAILWAY ISSUE
WELLINGTON DEPUTATION PUBLIC MEETING ON MONDAY At a meeting of the Gisborne railway committee held this afternoon to discuss the latest developments in connection with the railway construction programme, the personnel of the deputation which is to wait on the actingPrime Minister in Wellington on Wednesday, January 7, was arranged as under:—
Messrs. D. W. Coleman, Mayor; Chas. Matthews, chairman of the Cook County Council; F. R. Ball, chairman of the Poverty Bay Power Board; F. S. Bowen, president of the Farmers’ Union; C. H. Williams, Sheepowners’ Union; and C. G. Bloore, Chamber of Commerce. In order that the deputation should have some definite expression of public opinion to place before, the acting* i reinier, it was decided to bold . a public meeting in the City Hall on Monday evening, when an opportunity will be given to prominent residents of the town and county areas Jo express their views upon what has become the burning topic of discussion throughout the district. The Mayor will preside, but the other speakers of the evening will not include any of the members of the deputation which is to proceed to WolhlAt'request is to be forwarded to the Hon. E. A. Ransom, asking that the delegation from Gisborne be met by as many members of Cabinet as possib e, in addition to the acting-Pnme Minister himself, and particularly the Ministers for Public Works and Railn ay. ■
