GISBORNE BATTING WELL MATCH WITH WELLINGTON At 3.30 o’clock (his afternoon in (ho match at the Oval between the Poverty Bay representative team and the Wellington touring side, the home players had run up an exceptionally fine total of 170 for the loss of only two wickets. G. J. Robertson, who was still batting, had accounted for more than half of that total, his score at that stage standing at 93. Robertson was one of the opening pair, and he batted consistently well throughout the first three hours of play, opening out in the latter stages to hit a series of fours and several twos and singles. Fraser faced McAllan when play was resumed after the luncheon adjournment, and the howler’s first over was a maiden. The next three yielded Robertson a few singles, and the following over ho ran three and hit a four off McAllan. In the sixth over, Robertson’s second single put ICO on the board. Several alterations in the howling followed. Neither batsman scored many off the Wellington captain, who replaced McAllan and bowled three maiden overs in succession. After the first dozen overs, Robertson commenced to knock the bowling about, and after three-quarters of an hour’s play 150 showed on the board. Scores at 3.30 p.m. were:— POVERTY BAY First innings.
