WEEKLY TRACK MEET FEEFORM AN CEE IMPROVING Improving form on tbo part of the competitors in the various events was j noted at the weekly track meeting, bold by the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club last evening at tbe Childers! road reserve. In one or turn instances, the older and belter-known athletes showed signs of reaching their best form of past seasons, but the majority of Hie seasoned men were.nut yet really ready to give of their best. On the other hand, the, younger competitors among Hie men, and the majority of the. lady runners, showed the effects of good training. The programme was a good one, providing ample variety in the forms of competition offered. The officials of the club conducted their respective duties with, credit to themselves and satisfaction to the public. Results of the events contested were: — Ladies’ 120yds. handicap.—First heat (5 starters): Miss E. Vincent (13yds) 1, Miss M. Leigh (llv)yds) 2, Miss F. Flanagan (IOJ-vds) 3. Time, 14 3-ssec. Second heat (5 starters): Miss M. Nicol (13£yds) 1. Miss E. Sired (Bvds) 2. Miss P. Tier (10yds) 3. Time. 14 l-ssce. Final: Miss Sired 1, Miss Leigh 2. Miss Vincent 3. The winner put in a fine burst at the finish, and just reached the tape inches ahead of tho other placed runners. All (lie finalists van well. Time. 14 1-osec. Ij miles cycle handicap (11 slgj'tcrs): T. Campbell (25yds) 1, A. Campbell (40yds) 2. I). Millin' (140yds) 3. Millin' put up a good ride, and, stalling the last lap. looked a winner, but over the last half-lap the brothers Campbell, who had been making up ground all the way, shot up and passed him. The winner s. finish was full of dash, and put him 20 yards ahead of his brother, who iu turn heat Mil her by a. little oyer a. length. Time. 4min. 2 l-ssec. 880vds. flat handicap (10 starters): H. Carr (105yds) 1, E. Williamson (45yds) 2, ,T. (Somervell (115yds) 3. The first place-getter was on a long mark, and looked pumped after half Hie journey. but ho finished on well to win by three yards from Williamson, the only one of Hie hackmarkers to mafco any serious impression on the limit men. Somervell ran an improved race, and was only four yards behind the second man. Time, 2min. 5 2-ssec. 220yds. flat handicap (5 starters)-: H. R. Fisken (17Avils) 1. E. Grant (11yds) 2, G. Quinn. (13yds) 3. The backmaykers did good work to get up alongside Fisken at the finish, for the distance runner showed unexpected dash. There were inches only between the placed men, and the other two runners were close. Time, 23 l-sscc. Hop, step, and jump handicap (5 competitors) : IT. R.. Fisken (hep. 3ft. 4in.) I, .T. Ancell (Imp. 4ft. 2in.) 2. This event proved a gift for Fisken, who had a yard to spare after making substantial concessions to liis opponents. Distance. including winner’s handicap, 43ft. Tin.
