Dr. A. G. I’. Fisher, Professor of Economics at the University of Otago, will leave New Zealand at the end of this week for Europe, lie will make a. tour of Asia, passing through China, Siberia, and Russia, returning lo New Zealand in a year.

Professor •!. .Macmillan Brown and Miss Helen Drown, of “Holmhank,” Cashmere Hills, ' Christchurch, who have been visiting England, loft on their return journey to New Zealand by the Rotorua, which, after calling at. Suva, is due in Wellington on December 3.

Mr. R. 0. Hatton, director of the East Mailing Horticultural Research Station, will visit Now Zealand and Australia. He will reach Wellington on November 17, and Sydney on December 14, spending live weeks in Australia. As the result of grants hv the Empire Marketing Board, arrangements are being made to accommodate post-graduate research students from the Dominions at, East Mailing. Mr. Hatton’s tomv is part of general Empire development work.

Mr. R. McLaughlin, accountant of the Gisborne branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who lias been appointed relieving manager of the Nelson branch, was farowellecl by members of the Cosmopolitan Club on Tuesday afternoon, when ho was the recipient, of a small gift as a token of the high esteem in which lie was held by them. They expressed, regret, at- his departure, but joined in wishing both him and Mrs. McLaughlin a happy and prosperous future. Mr. McLaughlin made a suitable reply.
