Aiming the passengers by the Cathay which has arrived at Fremantle from London is Dame Nellie Melba. Or. W. J. Mac Gibbon was welcomed at last evening’s meeting of! the Gisborne Borough Council on his return front a holiday visit to Australia. Private advice was received by last week’s overseas mail that Miss Vera Moore, the talented New Zealand pianist, intends leaving shortly for Paris, where she will reside in future. Miss .Smith, who has been in charge of tho infant department of the Wai pawn District High School for a number of years, has received notice of her appointment as fiend infant mistress at the Wairoa school. The change will take place at the end of the school year.

Mr. M. P. Pciole, of Gisborne, lias been advised of the success of his son, Mr. Lindsay who hits gained his B-A. degree and passed in his Bachelor of Commerce examination at the Auckland University. Mr. Poole, jun., is a member of the Forestry Department, and probably will be engaged in scientific research work. He headed the list of Successful candidates. Mr. Tailored l'oole, another son, secured a first in philosophy, a second in Greek, and a third in Latin at the Auckland University examinations, and will attend the university for another year to enable him lo 'sit, for honors. Mr. Tailored Poole is a divinity student at .St, John’s College, Auckland.
