FIRST FOURS FIRST ROUND RACES Two races in the first round of the Gisborne Rowing ('lull's lirst trial fours were rowed last evening on the Turuheru jjiver. over ;i course ot t liiee-quai tors of ;i mile, the tidal conditions being very lawn-able. '[’he crews for the opening race comprised lx. A. Woodward (sir), Zachariah, Schultz, and 11ewitson ; and G. Weatherlev (str), Briflault, Egan and Slade. The start was not a particularly good one for dither crew, Woodward having the better of it, and leading by nearly threequarters of a length at the Hallance street bridge, about a Inching and a hali from the start. Wiathelley sprinted for awhile, and cut down his opponent s lead, hut Woodward was rowing a quicker .stroke, and at Herbs street had re-established his advantage. liver tinlast quarter of a mile, Woodward ictained liis advantage, and won by just under a length after a good race. SELECTOR'S The greater part of the business done at. the weekly meeting of the P.B. Rowing (''lab’s executivo last evening was of a ’pure!*' domestic nature, the appointment of selectors for the representative crews being the chief item of general concern. The dnh captain, Mr. IF J. Fatty, with Messrs. J. Webb and T. Hill, were appointed selectors for the, season, with a recommendation that crews to represent the club in the L.V.A. Shield regatta on January 31, be put into training as oarlv as possible. The meeting ratified the agreement readied at the East Coast A.R.A. meeting, respecting the conduct of the Miller Cun inter-club races, and also the date fixed for the L.V.A. Shield competitions.
