POET'S SUICIDE
UNHAPPY LOVE AFFAIR LONDON, April 14. The Moscow correspondent of the Daily News writes: "No more beer halls', no more flirts for you, my lad; you're now going to wander in' the ether." wrote the "Red" poet Vladimir Maiukovslcy, jceringly, in a poem which became famous when the young proletarian poet, Serge Yessessin, husband of the dancer Tsadora Duncan, committed suicide o few years ago. Now Maiakovsky, one-- of the most famous of revolutionary poets, has himself committed suicide, having shot himself in the head with a revolver after a night-long party, from which he went home in the company of a young- actress. , Maiakovsky wrote a letter to friends, saying: "This isn't a brave way of going out, but I cannot stand it any longer. My best legacy is a hope that you will go on helping to build a better world." Another letter is believed to attribute the suicide to an unhappy love affair, hut the critics' declaration that Maiakovsky's last" two. plays were ! failures greatly annoyed him.
