THE OVERSEER’S REPORT Tit? progress of works in the Cook County during the past; month was reviewed by the county overseer, Mr. A. Guthrie, in his report to the council meeting to-day. The report stated: — 1 “Metalling Ilangaroa-Tahora road: Good progress has been made on this contract during the month. Three miles of top course metalling have been completed this season. Metalling o’Grady’s road, T'aruhoru: No work was done on lliis contract during the month. Metalling I’anikau: Completed. Metalling Patutahi-Roro main liigh\vav: Proceeding slowly. Metalling Waihirere Domain road: Completed. Metalling Riverside road: Completed. Metalling Bruce's road: Completed: Cleaning drain, Glencoe: Completed. “Maintenance: General maintenance has been carried out in all ridings during the month. The tractor graders have been employed on maintenance work in various ridings and on highways. The council’s lorries were engaged carting stone and on construction work on the OrmondWaiohika highway. As no tenders were received for cleaning Pipiwhakaon drhin, arrangements were made to have the drain cleaned of weeds and obstructions. Four men arc employed, on this work, and a contract gang 1 has started work on the lower portion of the drain. BIGIIWAYS MAINTENANCE “ Gisborne- Wairoa, via Hangaroa: General maintenance has been carried out by surfacemen and repairs done with crushed stone between .1(1 mile and 21 mile. Depots also have' been established for winter maintenance. “Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere: Maintenance consisted of repairs to unsealed surfaces, repairs to bridges, and cleaning of side drains. | “Gisborne-Opotiki, via Coast: Usual maintenance was carried out on this road up to March 31, when the Public, Works Department took over the maintonanee of this highway. ) “Gisboni'e-Opotiki, via Motu: Maintenance on this section was light, consequent on heavy maintenance during the previous month. Patittahi-Rere: General maintenance and repairs were carried out on this highway. “Ormond, via Waiohika: Light maintenance of shingle surfaces and cleaning of side and outlet drains were carried out on this road. CONSTRUCTION “Ormond, via Waiohika: The laying of top course stone and bitumen penetration lias been completed over 118 chains. “ Patutnhi-Roro: Top course metal lias been carted, spread and rolled over a distance of 70 chains; 456 cubic vanls have been delivered to date.”
