BRITAIN’S REPLY TO GERMANY £5,000,000 CHNARD PROJECT LIVERPOOL, Feb. 26., Plans for the building of a new Canard liner of more than 65,006 tons. 1000 ft. long, with an average speed of 28 knots, have reached an advanced stage, and tin announcement that, work is to he begun on the new Atlantic record-breaker is expected in tin' spring. For some lime it lias been apparent that the Cunard Line intended to build af least one fast liner to challenge the German liner Bremen. It is believed that the cost of the new Cumuler will lie in the .region of £5,000,000, and her construction, lasting three years, will give employment to thousands of men. There lias been no change in the White Star Line’s plans since September 25, 1020, when a statement was issued that it had boon decided to stop work on Hie Oceanic,-which had been ordered from Messrs, llurlttnd and Wolff, There is no likelihood of the work being restarted at present. Tlie White Star Co.’s Majestic, of 56,62.1 tons, is now the world’s biggest ship.
