ROAD SERVICE
MOTORISTS’ ORGANISATION NORTH ISLAND PROJECT Service organisation throughout the North Island was the subject of a report presented to the North Island Motor Union at Wellington. _ A sub-committee met in Wellington on Thursday and came to the conclusion that in view of the rapid growth of the Auckland road service organisation since its inception three years ago, closer co-operation was necessary among the other associations in order that members should obtain better road service and greater benefits. it remained for the southern associations to co-operate and form a read service organisation to cover their districts. From a territorial point of view the headquarters should be at Palmerston North. The proposal submitted should be" circulated to the associations sO that their representatives could express their opinion at the next'meeting of the executive of the North Island Union. In the event of no satisfactory arrangement being arrived at, it-was suggested by the committee that associations link up in groups of threo or four as a first step to a larger organisation. Mr. F. J. Hill (Wanganui) submitted the report and recommendations. The report did not go far enough, said Mr. I. V. Wilson, and should be referred back for a further arrangement to be submitted. They should be able to amalgamate■ and have one organisation for the whole island. They would need committees in various towns, but the service organisation must be under one control. If concrete proposals of that nature were made he was sure the associations would come into the scheme. Mr. W. G. Walkley (South Taranaki) thought that they should refer the matter to the association for their opinion. Only by having one organisation could they give motorists 100 per cent, service. Mr. 11. J. Butcher (Auckland) said liis association was prepared to do anything in its power to create a North Island association. The proposals are to be submitted to the associations for their consideration.—Dominion.
