"CAN HANG ME!"

GIRL SHOT IN STREET JEALOUS YOUTH BRISBANE, April'4,'.;. "You can take me and do what you like with me.. They ean hang me if they like. I had to do it. She jilted me. According to the arresting constable, these remarks were made on the way to the lock-up by Errol Walter Elliott, 22, who was charged at the Police Court to-day with having attempted to kill Florence Heenan at Petrie Terrace on March 7. ',) Constable Sullivan said he heard a shot, followed by a girl's,scream and saw-a girl falling on the footpath. Elliott was standing close behind her with a pistol in his hand. Five more shots rang out, and a girl standing nearby grabbed Elliott's wrist end screamed.

Annie Marjorie Heenan, 20, sister of the wounded girl, said that she and Kathleen Sherwood were with her sister at Petrie Terrace when Elliott accosted them and said: "I told you, Flo.! " A shot rang out and Florence turned back. Two more shots were fired and Florence swayed and felL Elliott had been keeping company with her sister for about three years, but Florence broke the engagement before Christmas. Acting-Sergeant Angus said Elliott told him he had quarrelled with the girl, and when she would not be friends, he determined to shoot her. Ho said he was nearly mad with temper.
