ALLEGED FRAUD
BUSINESS MAN ARRESTED (Ter Press Association.l AUCKLAND, this day. Arrested yesterday afternoon, Bernard Sidney Spencer, public accountant, of the New Zealand Insurance Co. buildings, appeared in the .l’oiicc Court later to answer to a charge of false pretences. The charge was: “That, on April 23, 1020, accused did (ditain from A. Corban and Co. a cheque for £27 8s by means of false pretences, by allegedly falsely representing that be did pay the amount for income tax on behalf of the company.'’ The magistrate remanded accused to appear next ■ Thursday. It was stated that further charges were pending. An application for bail was made on behalf of the accused. The magistrate fixed the amount at £IOOO self in £300; and two sureties of £230 each.
