G.R.C. PRESIDENT’S FOURS lIANNA WINS SEMI-FINAL Tim semi-final race in the four-oar series conducted by the Gisborne Rowing Club lor ihe trophies presented by .Mr. 0. W. Muir, dub president, resulted in another win for K. Manila’s crew, the contest being rowed last evening. In the final of the series, to be decided this evening, Hanna’s opponents will bo the crew stroked by K. Unit. In last night’s race, Hanna (str.), Webber, Roddick, and Hay met 11. Stewart, (str.). Knox, Morrison and Seymour. the latter crew having just a trifle ihe better of the start and remaining on even terms for the first quarter of”a mile. Both strokes kept a fast rate, of striking for over the quarter, and when Stewart eventually lengthened out Hanna maintained his faster stroke long enough to forge ahead. There was a length between the boats at Roebuck road, and the disadvantage of Stewart’s crew was increased by a collision wiiti a. jetty further downstream, Hie darkness excusing the coxswain's error. At Derby street, Hanna had about two lengths lead, but a final effort by Stewart's four reduced this to under a length at the finish. The winners gave, a good display, and should prove hard to heat in their filial race with Bait’s four this evening.
