Dining the night Sydney was swept by a phenomenal storm, which lashed the metropolitan .urea for an hour. The wind reached a velocity of 41) miles an hour, nnd;39 points of rain ./.ell in 35 minutes. .Miniature rivers flowed down every street. The water banked up (iff. Jiigli under a bridge in Ultimo, while efforts were made to rescue n woman who was nearly drowned at this spot. A car was submerged to the hood in the rapidly rising waters. The four occupants scrambled to safety. During the downpour a woman was killed ),v a car at Petersham.
