TRAPPED
MURDERER'S FALSE STEP SWEETHEART'S MONEY PORTLAND (Or.), April 1. After murdering his sweetheart in a' lonely part of a Californian forest, Clarence King, 27, tried to obtain her bank account, by forgery, and this led to his undoing. Tiring of the company of Alary McCoy, his lady friend, King took -her for a long ride through a California redwood forest towards San Francisco. In a lonely spot he shot her to death, and threw her body behind a ilog and sped on. He might easily have disappeared, but cupidity proved his undoing. Mary had a bank account in Kansas City, and King wrote to the bank in her name, asking for a transfer of the funds to Portland. The bank recognised the forgery and notified the police, who arrested King. Almost at the -same hour hunters stumbled on the girl's body, and before another da} 1 passed, police found by fingerprints that they already had the murderer locked up. He confessed later.
