LAST EVENING’S MEET R. lIALL TAKES ALGIE CUP The Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club’s programme for the 1020-30 season was brought to a close last evening, when one championship and four handicap events were held at the Childers road reserve. Little interest was displayed, and the performances were not up to the usual standard. Despite tho efforts of the officials, they were unable to complete the meeting before the rapidlyapproaching darkness set in. R. Hall made the most of his handicap in the fivc-imile cycle contest, and when the scratch competitors caught him he tailed them for several laps. It was a disappointing race. C. McMahon, and A. Campbell retired after going half way, leaving Hall and A. 30. Redmond to tight out a very iftnie finish. Redmond was no match for Hall, who Avon by two lengths. Hall ’s win gained him the Algio Cup, with 10 points, A. Campbell being the runner-up with five points. Only three sprinters faced the starter in the 75yds. junior championship, which was Avon by E. Grant, Avith G. Quinn second, and L. MorroAV third. The time, S 2-sscc., was considered fast under the circumstances. D. Stevens Avas successful in the men \s century handicap, beating E. Sheridan, another middle-distance runner, by inches after a fair Taco. Miss E. Johnston won the 100yds. ladies’ handicap, with Misses C. McConnell and D. Dixey placed second and third respectively.
