NEWSPAPER LIBEL TAXEDRIVER'S OFFENCE (Per Press Association.) CIIIUSTCHURCH, last night. / The claim for £2OO damages for al-1 Icgcd libel by George Williams Goodge, a taxidriver, against the Sun newspaper was decided by tho ■ magistrate, .Mr. J. A. Young, to-day. ■Evidence was 'led for defendant to; show that Iho offending- words "outj on the booze" had been allowed to, appear in one edition only, having been altered in the later editions to "out late." Defendant, it was stated, had offered to publish an. apology, but this the plaintiff would not accept. ; Counsel for the defendant said Iho| libel, was not disputed, and was the! result, of an unfortunate blunder which might easily happen in any evening newspaper. He submitted that the amount paid into court, £SO, was adequate allowance for damages. Tho magistrate gave judgment tor; plaintiff for the amount paid into; court. Defendant was allowed costs.
