SEVERE STORM
DOWNPOUR AT WAIPUKURAU A heavy thunderstorm, aa.onmanicd by vivid flashes of lightning, followed by a torrential downpour of rain, struck VVaipukuraa and district on Monday. The parched nature of tlie ground was unable to absorb the phenomenal downpour, 1 which registered 310 points in three-quarters of an hour. The stormwater drains could not cope with the water, which backed, up and entered several shops, inundating the streets in the lower portion of the town. .No serious damage was done. The countryside will benefit greatly. Lighting struck the magneto of a Nap-ier-Phlmerstbr: North service car and the vehicle became helpless.
