AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE EXTRAVAGANCE ALLEGED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received April 10, 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, April 10. The Government has decided to cutnext. year’s defence estimates at least £500,000. It is claimed that the department is run too extravagantly, and that big savings can be effected without affecting the personnel. The Government will reduce the air force estimated expenditure by one-fifth. It is admitted that the dismissal of onethird of the officers and men is imminent.
