“A HOPELESS CASE” DRIVER’S BANKRUPTCY No creditors attended the summoned meeting in connection with the bankruptcy of William -Ora ill, driver. The Official Assignee, Mr J. N. Nahler, presided, bankrupt being represented by Mr. S. Y. Bcaufov. Bankrupt stated that, he had only a few debts when he was in the employ of the Harbor 'Board three years ago. Since then lie had been in constant employment with the exception of live months, lie was earning £4 8s a week with the Harbor Board, and out of this lie had paid £1 a week rent. He had a wife and six children depending on him, the eldest of the children being between eight and nine years of age. After leaving the Harbor Board he was employed at Wainui by Mr. \Y. D. Lvsiiar, receiving £3 a week and free house, free firewood, and meat .supply. This employment continued until August, 1928, after which he secured work on only occasional days. Since January, 1929, he had been in the employ of .Messrs. Jury and Parry, earning £4 Ss a week. All of his creditors had been pressing him, one having an attachment order of 5s a week oil his wages, while another had secured an order of £2 a week. llis landlord had taken proceedings against him, and had procured an order of ejection.

To further questions by the official assignee, bankrupt said he was not certain of some details of his debts, This prompted the assignee, to comment that apparently the bankrupt did no't take much interest in his affairs.

“It appears a pretty hopeless business,’’ the assignee remarked later. “The whole thing has been hopeless from the start., said Mr. Boaufoy. .
