RANKS WITH THE BEST SANTIAGO (Chile), Jan. 12. The quality of wool produced by large Chilean sheep companies in the Avsen and Magellan territories in southern •Chile has been raised to such a high plane in the last few years that the South American product low ranks with the best wool obtainable in Australia and New Zealand. European demand for Magellan wool has reached such proportions that, (luring the 1928-29 fiscal year 18,870,7.TS pounds were exported from this district with a value of 4,792,259 dollars out of a total exportation of 20,502,024 pounds worth 1i,287,015 dollars. Five large companies control the greater part of the sheeip-raising business in the two ten'itonies. The largest of these 'has a capital and reserve oi 20,1)0(1,0()t) dollars! In June, 1929, this company owned 1,290,891 head of sheep. Du,ring the last fiscal year the •(i.nipa.ny sold 499.1140 head of sheep. The second largest company has u capital and reserve of 11,335,000 dollars, and owns 210,719 111 wad of sheep. The company sold 55,217 sheep during the last year.
