Friday night will see the commencement of the series of international concerts beginning with the English com-posers—-'that are to be conducted during the 1930 season by Miss -Muriel Smith, and Mr. J. Carrington-Wellby. These concerts are being given in order that local musical eircl.es may listen to the standard pianoforte, violin anil vocal works of the various nations; ami also Mint the young people may obtain an insight into the various kinds of music that have been composed lrom the time of Elizabeth to the present day, and so learn to appreciate and gain a liking for a. higher standard of music. The promoters hope that their endeavors to further the interests of the musical aid in Gisborne will appeal sufficiently to assure a good house greeting!' their initial effort. '
