EXHIBITION ON THURSDAY PLANES TO VISIT GISBORNE Although through unavoidable circumstances the aerial pageant which was to be held in Gis'oornc on Thursday cannot, take place, the public, will not he entirely disappointed, for two machines will visit .tin* town on Thursday, and an interesting exhibition of aerobatics will he given at the Makaraka racecourse that afternoon. The visiting pilots will be Captain T. YY. White, who will lly the Hawke’s Bay and East, Coast Aero Club’s Spartan machine,' and Flying Officer Olsen, who will pilot the Moth donated to the club by the Government. Captain White, accompanied by Mrs. White, is expected to fly to Gisborne to-morrow, and Flying Officer Olsen, with Mr, D. Newbiggcn, a prominent official of the club and a pupil who recently qualified as a pilot, as his passenger, will arrive -on Thursday. Passenger flights will be given on Thursday and Friday, and at 2.81) p.m. on Thursday either one or both of the machines will give a display of aerobatics from the Makaraka racecourse. No charge for admission to the course will he made, but a collection will he taken towards a fund for the provision of a temporary hanger for the accommodation of ’planes visiting Gisborne. On Thursday evening the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club hall will be held in Te Pohoo-L'awiri Hali, Haiti, and it is anticipated that the function will he an outstanding success. Extensive preparations are being made for the ball, tie arrangements for-which are in the hands of an energetic committee; the meeting house is unsurpassed for such a function. Captain White and Mrs. White, Flying Officer Olsen, and Mr Newbiggcn will attend the hall as representatives from the club in Hastings. A flying visit was paid to Gisborne yesterday by Major Isift, officer in charge of the Hobsonville air base, who piloted a Government Moth' machine, and was accompanied by a mechanic attached to the base. The purpose of Major Isitt’s visit was to inspect further and report upon the site proposed to be acquired for an aerodrome for Gisborne, and yesterday afternoon, in company with the District Engineer, Mr. O. G. Thornton, and another officer of the Public Works Department, and the town clerk, Mr. R. D. B. Robinson, lie paid a visit to the ground. Major Isitt arrived in Gisborne at ,11.15 a.m., and departed again at 4.10 p.m. for Rotorua, which town was reached at a. 30 p.m. Major Isitt expressed satisfaction with the possibilities of the proposed ground, and intimated his intention to forward a copy of his report upon it to the Borough Council.
