HOURS OF WORK
COURT’S JURISDICTION
NOT LIMITED BY ACT
(I’or Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The decision of the Appeal Court that the Arbitration Court would not. exceed its jurisdiction in fixing working hours tor kiln burners in brick and pottery works at 12 hours daily, ihough tho Factories Act provides for a maximum of 8} hours, creates an interesting situation in view of the tact that the local Brick and Pottery IN or Ivors’ l ninu lias made application fur a new award.
Mr. Robinson, I lie secretary, states that the union will ask the, court not to fix any hours, and if the court will not refrain the union probably will withdraw the dispute and cancel registration under the. Conciliation and Arbitration Act, placing itself under the “more humane jurisdiction of the Factories Act.”
