WORKERS DISMISSED
N.S.W. RETRENCHMENT STEEL TRADE DIFFICULTY SYDNEY, April 5. Five hundred workers at the huge Fort Ivembla iron and steel works have received notice of dismissal. Scores of miners employed at Hoskin’s iocnl collieries have been reduced to half time.
it is stated that the reason for retrenchment is the cancellation ot orders for steel girders, owing to the slackness in the building trade and the suspension of railway contracts Wollongong and Port Kernbla. Consequently the industry- has received a severe setback. The workers’ lamilies are in a panic.
