AERO PAGEANT
HASTINGS SUCCESS A VARIED PROGRAMME (Per Press Association.) HASTINGS, last, night. The Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club had ideal weather on Saturday for its aerial pageant at Hastings. Seventeen machines competed. Pilots participated from various parts of the Dominion, including two ladies. Some 3CCO people assembled to witness the programme, which included landing and bombing competitions and displays ot aerobatics, besides races and formation living.
Sir Andrew Russell suggested that flic Minister should devote part of the reductions made on the land forces to those of promoting aviation, as their activities were of practical service to the Government Defence Department. He also advocated the establishment of air ports bv the civil authorities. The lit. lion. J. G. Coates supported Sir Andrew Russell’s suggestion, but the Minister, whilst admitting the claims of the air service, declined to commit, himself, pending an investigation that would first require to he made. All th 3 competing machines were Moths except Aliss Clifford’s AvroAvian. Additional results were :
