ROTARY CONFERENCE

At the Rotary Conference, greetings from iVaneouver club referred to u. Canadian Hag in transit to the Christ church club. An invitation from the Dunedin club for the next conference to be held in Dunedin was accepted. Mr. Charles Rhodes gave details <>f tho Rotary foundation endowment fund, and said'the purpose was to provide against contingencies that would interfere with the carrying out of the objects of Rotary, especially international service. In'i929 the total of the land was 5909 dollars. He explained that the fund was not a compulsory liability on 'any individual Rotariafa or club. The objective was £2,000.000. The details arc to be placed before clubs for discussion as to the adoption of the best method to provide contributions. Mr. Rhodes emphasised that the of the fund did not desire any pestering solicitation for funds. It was resolved to forward an invitation to the Rotary international to allocate tho Pacific Rotary Conference, 1932. to New Zealand. It was considered more likely that New Zealand would get the .1934 conference.

Reference was made by Mr. Rhodes to tho 25th convention of the Rotary International to be held in Chicago in Jiine, with an anticipated attendance of 25,000. lie urged that efforts be made for a representative delegation from New Zealand.

Mr. Harry Guthrie, president of the Dunedin club, the only nomination for district governor, was agreed by acclamation.

On tho motion of Mr Free, Mastert.on. the conference recorded appreciation oi the delightful manner in which Ihe Japanese delegate had recognised the visit of the New Zealand delegation to Japan in 1928 by the. gftt of a. bronze bust to Mr. Rhodes, and set out that the great speech of Mr. Nomara, breathing international goodwill and kindly sentiment, would be long remembered as extremely heart stirring. After votes of thanks and a- resolution appreciative of the visits of overseas delegates, the conference concluded.
