THE DENTAL CLINIC.

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir,—Yoar article in Saturday night’s issue on the above-mentioned suuject was of more than passing interest t< many oj your readers who are interested in the welfare of young ehildrcn. If > certainly depressing to note that the efforts of the Dental Clinic committee have met with so poor a response ir its appeal for funds. It is true tha. the rant and file of the public havt many calls to meet, and in too man.' instances on somewhat slender purses. It is also a fa t there are many ion are not disposed to lontrilvite on tin ground that the total cost of the ad ministration in this connection should bo borne bv tl e Government. Those o us who take up this attitude and madamant in this demand must surely realise that the policy of a government cannot be changed in a year or perhaps many years; consequently a direct re fusnl to meet the position, on the con ditions offering, is to deny in the mean time, whi-h mav he n very long time the Dental Clinic benefits that do accrue to children of the lower standards in on mfblic Schools.; This attitude is to he deprecated. In other centres of t!m Dominion the offer of the Government is being taken lip with alacrity, and the result, at the moment, is that the' -1 ' are insufficient dental nurses at the dis nosal of the department concerned t' mopfc the ever incrasing drnand.
