Whitcombe, of Murray Flacaj St. Albans, died suddenly on Friday at the age of 83 years. Deceased whe* was born in Jersey, was the third sen of the late Captain T. D. Whitcombe, of the Madras Royal Artillery. He received his education in England and France and with his brother, Mr. C. D, Whitcombe, he emigrated to New Zealand in 1864, landing at. Nelson. He proceeded immediately to Bell Block, Taranaki, join ing dp with the military settlers corps. He saw active service against the Maoris until 1870, and received the New Zealand medal. In 1901 he left- % North island to take up residence in Christ[church and was for 20 years with Messrs. Pyne and Co. 1 In addition to his widow, deceased leaves one son and six daughters. Mr. B.
