WORK .COMMITTEE'S REPORT Further information on some, matters Sdealt with, briefly in the engineer's report was afforded by the works committee's report, the text of which was as fellows I The engineer requested instruction?, regarding disposal of timber and iron from, No. 4 shed, which ia being dfcmolished; and the committee authorised him H® sell such, material as is not required ,fen, the! board's purposes, at prices ac cording to his discretion. "With the view to expediting construction ot the stockyard, and having in mind the number of the unemployed at; the present time, the committee authorised the engineer to engage four additional men on the demolition ot jNo. 4- shed>. so as to hasten obtaining timber to be used in construction of the stockyard. , "To assist Mr. Butler regarding the 'Cohvevance ef < stone from Tuamotu j island", the committee authorised the 'engineer.to arrange to have the boards punts caulfted at the earliest oppor tunity, at the board's expense. ; "The engineer submitted a quotation, .obtained from Messrs. Poole and Steel ifor a supply of spare bucket links and brushes required! for the Korua. These will cost £465, and the committee recommends that the be 'authorised to order them." I Soine discussion took place on the • point of the iboard's responsibility for the condition of the pontoons loaned to Mr. Butler for the transport of stone from Tuamotu Island for the sea wal contiact. Dr. Gollins tab«d a. motion to the flffaie that the contractor be called ot to put the pontoons in order,, and that, failing his. compliance with this request, the board undertake the work at the contractor's expense. This motion was seconded by Mr. A. Wade, and provoked a further discussion, which was treated, like the earlier conversations, as "in committee." It was made evident that the entire personnel of the board was anxious to assist the contractor to complete Ins work, and Mi. €. H. Williams gained iiohie support for his amendment to Dr. Collins' motion. The amendment was to the effect that the board undertake to bear a proportion of the cost, to be detennined after the completion of the repairs. This proposal, was eventually adopted on the casting vote of the chairman, the voting on the question being even. A> a result of this- decision, the clause of the report, ralating to tho repair of thf paints- at the board's expense was de leted, and the report, with Mr. Wil iliamsf proposal incorporated, was adopt ed. .
