QUEEN CAMPAIGN ENDS AMBULANCE CANDIDATE WINS After weeks of campaigning in connection with the Mardi Gras queen election, Miss Tholma Owen, representing the St. .John Ambulance Assoeition, last night was declared the winning candidate. The polling closed at 11 o'clock, but long before this time a large crowd had assembled outside the Mardi Gras headquarters in Lowe street eagerly waiting for the final results. Miss Norma Wilson, the Amateur Athletic Club's candidate, was a close .second, the margin between the two being only 104 votes, which represented the sum of 8s Bd. The Tennis candidate, Miss Nina Murphy, was third. The final returns were as under:—

Ambulance Queen r>2,884 Athletic Queen ."2,780 Tennis Queen 20,293 At the conclusion of the election representatives of the three queen committees expressed thanks to the public for their support in making the campaign a success, special thanks being extended to those who had given individual assistance. The speakers were Mr. A. Thomson, St. John Ambulance Association; Mr. F. Tolerton, Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club; and Mr. G. Alley, City Lawn Tennis Club.

The coronation ceremony will take place at the Childers road reserve this evening, the festivities being continued till midnight, when a display of fireworks and other attractions should form a fitting conclusion.
