THE CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS MORNING'S PLAY Tho Poverty Day and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association's championship tournament was continued to-day on (lib Whataupoko courts, while the Gisborno club's courts at Kaiti were utilised for some of the games. Play this morning was a continuation of the men's and ladies' championship singles, while ;i----start was also made with the men's handicap doubles. In the men's championship play, C. Watt, of Wellington, and R. Oato were responsible for a particularly fine contest, which was one of the features of tho morning's games. Both were responsible for good length shots, bright net play, and good back-hand and forehand drives, with Cato a little superior in all departments, and he won, 6—4, 6-3.
