THE CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS MORNING'S PLAY Tho Poverty Day and East Coast Lawn Tennis Association's championship tournament was continued to-day on (lib Whataupoko courts, while the Gisborno club's courts at Kaiti were utilised for some of the games. Play this morning was a continuation of the men's and ladies' championship singles, while ;i----start was also made with the men's handicap doubles. In the men's championship play, C. Watt, of Wellington, and R. Oato were responsible for a particularly fine contest, which was one of the features of tho morning's games. Both were responsible for good length shots, bright net play, and good back-hand and forehand drives, with Cato a little superior in all departments, and he won, 6—4, 6-3.

Woodrow beat A. J. Stock. 2—6, 6—2, 6—3; R Cato beat C. Watt (Wellington), 6—4, 6—3; C. Evans-Scott (Wellington) beat Oakden, 6—o, 6—o: G. H. Seddon boat G. W. Langhorne, 6—o, 6—3; N. H. Bull beat G.' Tolhurst (Wellington), 6-1, 6-2. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Second round :' Miss A. Wilson beat Miss iS. Ormond, 6—2, 6—2. Third round.: Mrs. D. E. Obrisp beat Miss E, Nolan, 6-2, 6—2; Miss Philp (Queensland) beat Miss J. W. Wheeler (Wellington), 5—7, B—6, 6—3. MEN'S HANDICAP DOUBLES. First round: A. Lancaster and W. Carruthers (scr.) beat J. J.
