Mr. B. Dudfield left for Dunedin on Christmas Day. Miss Helen Wills, the noted tennis player, has been married to Frederick Moodey, jun., a young San Francisco broker. Lord and Lady Latymer are leaving for New Zealand in January, and arc duo in Wellington on February 25. They will spend a few weeks trout fishing land deer stalking. J The Department of Overseas Trade at ■Home announces that on the resumption of commercial posts within Moscow, Mr. G. P. Paton, Consul at Tamsui, Formosa, has been appointed commercial counsellor, and takes up his duties on January 14. . Miss A. M. Stop, who is one of the chief -organisers of the National Federation of Women's Institutes in England, is leaving for New Zealand in December. She lias been invited bv Miss Spencer, .who is at the head of the movement' in iNew Zealand. The National Federation 'has over 4000 branches in England. Captain J. Trussell, of Wauganui, has been presented with a silver-mounted baton and a "scrap of paper." The Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, making the presentation on behalf of the citizens of Wanganui, referred to Captain TrussseH's 48 years of bund work, in 31 of which ho has also- acted, as secretary to the Wanganui Garrison Band. Mr. F. ('. Ellis, of CtTristchureb, who has received an appointment in Glsborne in connection with the A.M.P. Society, was the guest at a farewell function held by members of the staff. Tho district manager, Mr. G. 0. Burns, presented Mr. Ellis with a. token of goodwill and expressed the hope that in his now position he would be successful. — [Special.
