TE REINGA SPORTS

A SUCCESSFUL DAY CLUB'S ANNUAL GATHERING (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The annual gathering of Te Reinga Sports Club eventuated on Boxing Hay. The weather, in contradistinction to that of Christmas Eve. was all that could be desired, and there was a good attendance, but possibly not equal to that of last year, and there, being about 50 cars on the ground, used as grandstands, it was not the easiest thing to judge the size of the crowd. Tlu sportsground is situated on Ruakituri station, and a most picturescpre spot it is; almost completely surrounded by hillS, and partly bushclad, it made an ideal spot for such a gathering. Owing to tho recent rain, the course was springy, and greatly facilitated the work of the officials, who comprised Mr. 11. P. Wright, president; Messrs. W. Whyte, A. D. Graham, E. Trafford, P. Richardson, P. Mossman, and H. C. Nolan, vicepresidents, with a strong- committee and a good band of stewards, the Messrs. Evans standing out prominently as workers. Mr. F. Evans, of Gisborne, made an efficient judge, and the same can bo said of Mr. O. Evans as Btartor, whilst Mr. A. N. N. Unwin was the right man in the right place as secretary. The gathering was notable for the way the young farmers stood by their club in the matter of ontries, one event alone bringing out 25 competitors. Only two serious spills accurred, a lad being thrown and sustaining a bruised shoulder, while Miss Rae Wright received a severe shock by being thrown at tho brush in the pony jumping contest. .
