IMPROVED OUTLOOK
CANTERBURY CROPS (Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A week after the first heavy rain, which has been their salvation, growing crops in North Canterbury are looking very well indeed. It is considered that even if the wheat gets very little more rain till it is cut a good yield is assured. Tho prospects are that there will be much heavy and good quality chati about after the harvest, as the proportion of oats to straw will be heavy, owing to the' dry spell having cheeked the growth of the stems and "flags.” On ligfiter lands where the drought caused crops to look very sickly, there is now a quick and abundant growth. The heavier lands which retained the winter moisture better have stood the test, and the crops are thriving. There has been little feeding off of crops this spring owing to no rankness'occurring.
