RELIEF FOR INDUSTRIES OPERATION OF BRITISH SCHEME (British Official Wireleitr.) Roe. 10 a.m. RI'GBY, Sept. 26. On Tuesday the rating reform scheme of the late Conservative Government will come into full operation, and from that date British industry will be relieved of three-fourths of the burden of rates which it lias hitherto borne. Although assistance lias already been given to agriculture, and to 'certain of the heavier trades, industry as a whole had yet to receive the benefit of the greater part of the scheme, for the purposes of which a sum estimated at some £26,0(X),000 a year is to be made available.

The section of the Act that deals with the reform of local government will not come into operation until April next.
