TAUPO RAILWAY AREAS A NOVEL SUGGESTION (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Mr. Ji. Lane, continuing bis evidence at the Taupo railway inquiry, contended that with railway access Taupo would constitute one of the finest defence centres in Now Zealand. Mr. T. Makitanara ■. Do you suggest a foreign army is going to fight us in New Zealand? Mr. H. S. S. Kyle asked witness why he was suggesting a defence scheme. He hoped it was not to curry favor with the chairman, Colonel McDonald. Witness replied that he had accompanied Lord Roberts into Pretoria as the Melbourne Herald correspondent, and ho knew something of action and tactics. The committee adjourned till Tuesday.
