AMERICAN GRADUATES

“DOOMED TO FAILURE IN BUSINESS” NEW YORK, March 11. Persons who wish to be financially successful through the prestige of a university training are doomed to be disappointed. Such education, according to a report presented yesterday to Columbia University by Dr. Harold Clark, Professor of Education, is indeed a distinct detriment to salary-earning capacity; sends persons into professions 'already overcrowded, and robs them of the quick, daring attitude which is essential to business success. Tho evidence upon which Dr. Clark’s report is based was gathered from leading economists and American industrialists. Dr. Clark does not discourage men and women interested in liberal studies from attending college. But he warns them that massoeducation, as conducted in the United ‘States at present, is largely responsible for the decrease of earning power of educated persons, l' To-day there are about 600.000 students in the United States in institutions of or above tho college grade, most of them preparing for professions.
