hi connection with the establishment of the Imperial Airways service from London to Karachi, India, it is interesting to note that the management of the Karachi terminal is in the hands of Major W. Professional v bouts of four and six jrounds, staged as preliminaries to big 'fights in Sydney and Melbourne, are no better than the amateur preliminaries which are such" popular features of the Northern Boxing Association's Town Hall carnivals. That is the opinion of Mr. E. A. Craig, president of the Northern Boxing Association, who has returned after a visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Profit making is the keynote* of pugilism, large and small, in Australia, and, as far |s Mr. Craig could ascertain, there was, no organisation similar to the New Zealand Boxing Association, having as its chief aim the encouragement of amateur boxing. Mr. Craig saw the La Barba-Smith fight, and several other bouts, but was not greatly impressed.—Auckland Star.
A real wild buffalo hunt occurred in Chicago on Saturday, when a buffalo escaped from a train conveying a circus and ambled up the street towards the business centre. A detective squad and a dozen cowboys from the circus gave chase, and as they neared the beast, the latter took' fright at the white coat of a hospital attendant, and raced on down the street, disregarding traffic conventions and the efforts of point-duty men to stop its wild career. Stopping suddenly in front of a shop window 'in which was displayed a large pfetufre, "The Stag's Last Stand," the buffalo considered the picture for a moment, and then crashed through the window in an effort to finish off the painted stag. This act of destructive criticism gave the pursuers a chance to surround the beast, and effect its capture.
