FAMINE IN KENYA
BIG INVASION BY LOCUSTS NATIVE CROPS CONSUMED NAIROBI, Feb. 7. The iorusi position is causing a feeling uf acute depression throughout Kenya. The latest reports indicate that the food crops are practically cleaned out in all the big native reserves anil that the Government is busy inaugurating" famine relief measures everywhere. The situation is aggravated liy the effects of the drought.
The locusts are now attacking (lie, large native f I crops in the extensive Kikuyu Province. In the Europeansettled areas practically (he whole wheat crop has been consumed. The future is extremely black, in view of the heavy egg-laying. "'The* Government estimates that there is at present in the. colony 400.000 hags ; of maize and 60,000 hags of wheat, for which there are no contracts. These will he commandeered by the Food Control Board.
