THAMES HARBOR
INCOMPLETE SCHEME "RAISING THE WIND" A strong deputation from tho Thames waited on tho Minister of Marine, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, in Auckland, to ask his help for the completion of the harbor scheme, which has already cost £06.000, and still requires about £4.000 worth of dredging to give vsix feet of water at low tide at tho wharf, which otherwise is a tidal berth.
The deputation was introduced by Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P. Mr. Danby, chairman of the Harbor Board, asked that tho Government take over tho board's dredging plant, worth about £15.000, and complete the worK of dredging the channel to the" wharf berth from deep,.water. Tho board had no more money and could not raiso any more. The Minister said he was informed the board had authority to raiso anything up to £200,000. The deputation said it would be hopeless to go to the ratepayer* and ask for sanction for any further loan. Mr. Cobbe told the deputation the Marine Department could not take over the board's dredging plant. Ho was sorry, but they would have no use for it. All he could do was to imako further representations to the Government, He thought that what would happen would be that the Government would ask the board to try again and put the matter before the ratepayers, explaining tho position that the work was held up for the lack of the £4OOO required to complete it.
