BORG'S LATEST RECORD

SUVA, March 22.

Arne Borg put up a wonderful performance- in the Suva baths last week! when he came ashore from the Aorangi, on which he was a passenger .for Honolulu. On receiving the invitation to swim he consented and announced he would make an attempt on the world's 220yds. record. When he arrived he said he had changed his mind and would make an attempt to break the world's record over 600yds. The record up to that timo was 7m in. 7sec, put up by himself in New York City baths in 1925. Borg swam one length to the starting point and then, without any preliminary beyond a warning, dived ii; and covered the 10 laps all but a few yards required for the 600yds. length, and emerged triumphantly certain he had beaten his best time. He had clipped off 9 l-ssec., his time being -6mm. 57 4-ssee.—Auck-land Herald.
