SUDDEN DEATH

DUE TO HEART FAILURE An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of John Herbert Foster, 44, who died suddenly at Matavvhero yesterday morning, was conducted before the coroner, Air. E. C. Levvey, S.M., this morning. Sergeant Mclntyre conducted the proceedings on behalf of the police. Dr. H. Angell stated that shortly after 7 a.m. yesterday, he was called out to tho deceased at Mrs Buscke’s home at Matawhero, but found life extinct. Yesterday afternoon ho performed a post mortem examination, and found that death was due to thrombosis of the right coronary artery of the heart, the result of artorio-sderosis.

Airs Alay Buseko stated that between 4 and 5 p.m. on Thursday deceased arrived at her home with a mob of cattle, and retired to bed at about S p.m. Witness had known Mm since he was a boy, and he was in his usual good health and spirits. At 6 a.m. witness took a cup of tea into his room and found him reading a magazine, and a little later she saw him in the yard. He then appeared to be quite normal, and did not complain of any illness. At 7 a.m. witness sent her sou out to look for him, and the boy found him lying in an out-building. Witness went out and found that apparently he was dead. He was carried into the washhouse, and Dr. Angell and the police were summoned.

Ivan Buscke, 14, stated that he found the deceased on the floor of an out-building with his head-bent under him, appearing to have collapsed. Mainland li. Foster, a cousin of deceased, gave evidence of identification. Deceased resided in Gisborne with his wife and family, but being a drover, his occupation frequently took him out into the country. Constable Allen, of Patutahi, stated that he was called to fhe house yesterday morning, but Foster was dead when witness arrived. The coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
