Hain fell stend’ly throughout the greater part of tho day and the unsurfaced Whiriuaki road, which leads to the recently-estab-lished Guthrie Settlement, became a morass in places. Under the combined efforts of the Minister and Mr. ■). B. Thomson, Under-Secretary of Lands, the motor car yielded to persuasion and, with a great churning up of mud, reached less treacherous ground.
