NERSAG SENSATION
EX-CHAIRMAN IN COURT "INTENDED TO DISAPPEAR" (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON. Feb. 9. (•Biandieth, the ex-chairman of directors of Nersag, Ltd., was remanded on the charge of converting to his own use the sum of £43,000 belonging to # the company. Mr. Rcome, representing the Nersag Co., said that- Brandroth drew a cheque for £54,000 and bought a' house for which he paid a deposit of £SOO in notes. He completed the purchase within a few days and lived there under an assumed name. He shaved, off his moustache and bought a motor ear for £764. and furniture to the value of £3BO, all with Treasury notes. His intention was to disappear and come to life as "J. Gordon Bell." Mr. Framton. for the defence, said that Brandreth was ill and worried. He possibly did a silly thing, but he never tried to get away.' The matter was one purely of accounts. His own holding in the company, even at the present price of the shares, far exceeded tlie sum of £543,000 he was charged with converting. Bail was refused.
