LITTLE GIRL KILLED
ACCIDENT NEAR WAIROA RIFLE ACCIDENTALLY FIRED (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A distressing accident occurred on Saturday morning at Terepatiki, on the Waikaremoana road, resulting in the, death of Ethel Margaret Gray, 11, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Gray, storekeepers, at Terapntiki, A sister of the deceased took a .22 calibre rifle to shoot a dog that had broken its leg. When she levelled the weapon at the dog it- did not go off, and the girl, looking for her brother to find out what was wronr: with the gun, swung it round with herself and it suddenly exploded. The charge entered the abdominal region of her sister, who was at once seen to be mortally injured. The child was rushed with all haste to the County Hospital, where an operation was performed, but she died at 4 p.m. To. Mi- and Mrs. Gray and family will be extended the sincere sympathy of many friends in their sad loss under such tragic circumstances. The little girl was of a most cheerful and sunny disposition, and was always popular amongst the children and adults of the district. *
