COLD UNBEARABLE
MISS COPPLESTONFFS STATEMENT (Per Press Association.) W ELLIN ETON, this day. The cold, said Miss Gopplestone this morning, was the deciding lactor in making her abandon her attempt to swim Cook Strail. For the first hnli-hour it was not so bad, but after that it was unbearable. “No amount of oil or grease will keep that cold out,’’ sho said, “and the cold will prevent the strait being swum. The conditions otherwise were perfect last night, and I am confident. that the distance would not have, beaten me. ft was only the coldness of the water that be,at. me, and 1 think it will beat any other swimmer who attempts the feat.”
